‘Homesick’ takes the form of a series of interconnected journeys; remembered and post-remembered, iterated and re-iterated. A digital film and photographs from recent train journeys from Swansea back to Lancashire contest a short film clip and stills from my 1990 semi-autobiographical film ‘Salvation Guaranteed’, which recounts the sense of aimlessly driving along Route 66. Set alongside these are family archive images made by using custard powder directly in contact with the photographic surface, which resembles a kind of viral infection, a symbolic manifestation of the nostalgic disease. These are printed on tissue, the kind used to wipe your mouth after being sick.
