Deaths Witness (2000)

Touring Exhibition and Publication (2001/01)

“Deaths Witness is a critical reexamination of the relationship between death, icons, the body, and photography. Death’s Witness is anchored by a methodology bringing together theory and practice which reflects the current reappraisal of representations of the body and of the emerging awareness of the symbiotic relationship between art and science.

Central to the artist’s work is the original 1898 photograph of the Turin Shroud which revealed a veritable human presence, a spark for any debate between science and faith. Using members of her immediate family, Ingham reconfigures the mythology surrounding this potent symbol through a multi-layered deconstruction involving video, digital manipulation, and X-ray and forensic photography.”
